SUMMARY:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Teacher’s Assistant to support the Kindergarten classroom instruction and student development at the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Academy. RESPONSIBILITES:
- Support instructional activities in whole-class, small-group, and one-on-one settings
- Supervise students during instructional and non-instructional periods
- Assist with classroom management and reinforce positive behavior expectations
- Prepare instructional materials and maintain an organized classroom
- Support informal assessments, student observations, and documentation
- Provide additional support to students with individualized needs, as directed
- Maintain a safe, clean, and engaging learning environment
- Model Jackie Joyner-Kersee’s Winning in Life principles, Biblical values, and Christian educational philosophy
- Communicate professionally with students, families, and colleagues
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
- Paraprofessional certification (strongly preferred)
- Associate’s degree in Education, Early Childhood, or related field (preferred)
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with children in a classroom or educational setting (required)
- Mandated Reporter Certification (required; may be completed upon hire)
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively and work independently
- Comfort using classroom technology (Microsoft Office, Promethean Boards, tablets)
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting and respond calmly to unexpected or emergency situations
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Active school environment with frequent standing, walking, and movement
- Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds occasionally
- Requires visual acuity to supervise students, read materials, and operate classroom technology.
- Noise levels are typically moderate but may be loud during group activities and transitions.
- Work occurs in a classroom and school environment, including outdoor activities
