Athletic Youth Development Professional

SUMMARY:

The Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation is seeking an energetic and dependable Athletic Youth Development Professional to join our afterschool team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with youth and using sports, recreation, and physical activity to build confidence, teamwork, discipline, and healthy habits.

RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Lead engaging sports, fitness games, recreational activities, and other athletic programming.
  • Actively supervise youth and maintain a safe, positive environment.
  • Help youth develop teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, and confidence.
  • Use positive reinforcement and redirection to support appropriate behavior.
  • Assist with participant arrival, dismissal, snack/mealtimes, field trips, and program transitions.
  • Set up, maintain, and safely store athletic equipment and supplies.
  • Build positive relationships with youth, families, and fellow staff.
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with children or youth, paid or volunteer.
  • Coaching, sports, recreation, fitness, camp, or youth athletic experience preferred.
  • Mandated Reporter and CPR/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening and required background checks.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to actively engage, supervise, and positively redirect school-age youth.
  • Dependable and available to work the scheduled afterschool hours.
  • Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This is an active youth-development position. Candidates should be comfortable spending much of the program day standing, moving between activities, actively engaging with youth, and responding quickly when needed.

Status:

Part-time, non-exempt

Schedule:

Mon, Tue, Thur, Fri 1:30pm – 6:00pm; Wed 12:30 – 6:00pm

Salary:

Starting rate $16.00/hour, Offer will be based on education/experience
