SUMMARY:
The Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation is committed to providing a supportive environment where youth can grow, learn, and thrive through enriching programs and activities. As an Active Summer Camp Youth Development Professional, you will lead and engage with youth participants, guide their daily activities, and ensure a safe, positive environment. RESPONSIBILITES:
- Lead and facilitate a variety of programs aimed at nurturing youth development and fostering personal growth.
- Collaborate with the Program Management team to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate camp programs and events.
- Maintain accurate attendance records for each program session.
- Support check-in, arrival, and departure processes for participants.
- Engage and supervise participants during meals, snack time, and field trips.
- Attend and participate in all staff training and meetings.
- Uphold JJKF policies and ensure the safety of all participants.
- Foster positive relationships with parents, participants, and staff.
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor for the youth.
- Communicate any concerns or incidents immediately to the Program Manager.
- Infuse the spirit of the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation’s mission into every interaction, emphasizing Winning in Life and The JJK Way.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of camp.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED required, some college or a bachelor’s degree preferred.
- At least two years of experience working with children (paid or volunteer).
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to design effective and engaging programs.
- Flexibility to cover and fill in shifts as needed.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to make sound decisions, solve problems, and manage time effectively.
- Excellent relationship-building and customer service skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be physically active and able to participate in activities such as running, walking, jumping, bending, and reaching.
- Expect to spend the majority of time standing and actively engaging with youth.
- Must have strong visual and auditory abilities.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Must be able to respond quickly in emergency situations.
- Must be able to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously and handle stress positively.
