We’re looking for Youth Development Professionals who are passionate about youth empowerment and ready to make an impact in East St. Louis. If you’re looking for part-time work that’s more than “just a job,” this is your chance to be part of something meaningful.
The Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation is looking for energetic, caring, and committed individuals to join our Afterschool Program as Youth Development Professionals. This part-time opportunity is perfect for students pursuing degrees in education, social work, child development, psychology, sports management, or related fields.
You’ll help carry out Jackie Joyner-Kersee’s dream of empowering youth in East St. Louis to Win in Life. Our program offers a fun and engaging environment where youth explore academics, fitness, STEAM, arts, and character development through our signature Winning in Life curriculum.
RESPONSIBILITES:
What You’ll Do:
- Lead group activities, educational games, sports, and enrichment sessions
- Support a safe and positive space where kids feel valued and encouraged
- Incorporate the JJK Winning in Life principles in all programming
- Assist with arrival, check-in, dismissal, snack distribution, and supervision
- Help plan and support programs, events, and activities alongside the Program and Athletic Directors
- Take daily attendance and track participation
- Assist volunteer instructors and maintain organized program space

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
What We’re Looking For:
- High School diploma or GED (required)
- 2+ years experience working with children (paid or volunteer)—mentoring, tutoring, coaching, camp counseling, etc
- Criminal background check & Drug test are required
- CPR/First Aid Certification or willing to complete
- Mandated Reporter Certification or willing to complete
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Reliable, responsible, and enthusiastic about making a difference
- Organized and able to supervise youth in a structured environment
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be physically active and able to participate in activities such as running, walking, jumping, bending, and reaching.
- Expect to spend the majority of time standing and actively engaging with youth.
- Must have strong visual and auditory abilities.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Must be able to respond quickly in emergency situations.
- Must be able to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously and handle stress positively.
