SUMMARY:
The Maintenance – JJK FAN Innovation Center is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and readiness of the JJK FAN Innovation Center while also supporting the Urban Agriculture program. This position splits responsibilities evenly between custodial/facility care and agricultural support, ensuring both the building and outdoor grow spaces are maintained at the highest level of excellence, accountability, and detail.
RESPONSIBILITES:
- Perform a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure the JJK FAN Innovation Center is well-maintained and ready for daily activities.
- Maintain indoor and outdoor grow spaces, including but not limited to garden beds, hoop houses, raised planters by supporting basic upkeep in coordination with the JJK FAN Grow team.
- Clean/maintain all spaces within the JJK FAN Innovation center including but not limited to classrooms, kitchens, auditorium, labs, restrooms, hallways, offices, floors, etc.
- Set up and arrange furniture, equipment, and supplies for events.
- Perform routine custodial tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting.
- Empty trash and dispose of waste in accordance with procedures.
- Maintain outdoor walkways, parking lots, and entryways by sweeping, litter and debris removal.
- Assist with minor repairs such as changing light bulbs and basic equipment fixes.
- Follow safety protocols and ensure the JJK FAN Center is secure at all times.
- Collaborate with staff to coordinate cleaning schedules and respond to urgent needs.
- Assist JJK Maintenance staff on set ups for facility usage.
- Snow removal duties including shoveling walkways and operating a snowblower, spreading salt.
- Maintain SOP logs and turn them in weekly for supervisor review.
- Available to assist with tasks in all JJK Foundation spaces as needed.
- Other duties as assigned
* May be required to attend meetings and/or training and assist with events outside of regular schedule.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous custodial/maintenance experience preferred.
- Interest or experience in agriculture, landscaping, or gardening is strongly preferred.
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment (vacuums, floor scrubbers, etc.).
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques, safety protocols, and basic grounds care
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong attention to detail and ability to balance varied responsibilities.
- Good communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Physical stamina to lift up to 50+ lbs., work outdoors in varied weather, and stand/walk for extended periods.
- Flexibility to support events when needed.

- Able to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously and manage stress positively.
- Flexible schedule and willingness to cover shifts due to call-offs when possible
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Requires frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching, and carrying, including the ability to walk long distances for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds, as well as set up and take down equipment and supplies.
- Able to climb ladders and work comfortably at heights, including on the roof of the building.
- Requires occasional sitting and computer use (typing and mouse).
- Must have visual and auditory ability to respond swiftly to critical incidents and emergencies; vision requirements include close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
