Facilities Maintenance Manager

The Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation is seeking an experienced Facilities Maintenance Manager to oversee the maintenance, safety, and daily operations of our multi-building campus. This leadership position manages custodial operations, preventative maintenance, special projects, and event support while supervising a dedicated maintenance team.

RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Lead, coach, and develop the Facilities Maintenance, Custodial, and Grounds team.
  • Oversee the maintenance and daily operations of multiple Foundation buildings and grounds.
  • Develop preventative maintenance schedules and ensure timely completion of repairs.
  • Manage facility projects, vendor relationships, contractors, and service agreements.
  • Coordinate event setups, facility rentals, and campus readiness for programs and special events.
  • Monitor building systems, including HVAC, lighting, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection systems.
  • Oversee maintenance of Foundation vehicles, lawn equipment, and utility carts.
  • Manage department inventory, operating budget, and maintenance projects.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and help maintain a safe campus environment.
  • Collaborate with Foundation leadership on facility planning, capital improvements, and long-term maintenance strategies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

* May be required to work hours outside of regular schedule to assist with events and for business needs.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible facilities management experience.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of facilities, building maintenance, or operations leadership experience required.
  • Previous experience supervising maintenance, custodial, grounds, or facilities personnel preferred.
  • Experience managing maintenance projects, contractors, vendors, and departmental budgets preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and general building maintenance.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, team-building, and employee development skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and oversee multiple maintenance projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify practical, cost-effective solutions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with employees, volunteers, contractors, vendors, and community partners.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with leadership and cross-functional teams.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position combines office, maintenance, and outdoor work in a fast-paced environment. The Facilities Maintenance Manager regularly moves throughout the Foundation campus to oversee operations, inspect facilities, support events, and respond to maintenance needs.

The successful candidate must be able to:

  • Frequently walk, stand, bend, reach, climb stairs, and lift, carry, push, or pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Safely climb ladders and work at elevated heights, including rooftops, when necessary.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Use computers, telephones, and other standard office equipment.
  • Assist with the setup and breakdown of equipment and event spaces as needed.
  • Manage multiple priorities while maintaining professionalism in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends, and extended hours to support Foundation events, emergencies, and operational needs.

Mon – Fri 10:00am – 7:00pm *

Salary:

Pay starting at $60,000 based on education /experience
