Maintenance Position

SUMMARY:

The maintenance staff person is responsible for all aspects of keeping the grounds clean and ready for games and the daily cleaning, event setup/tear down, and all aspects of in relations to the cleanliness of the center.  The maintenance staff operate and maintain the JJK Foundation property and facilities at the highest level of excellence, accountability, and detailed professionalism.

RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure the facility is well-maintained and ready for daily activities.
  • Cleans/maintains all JJKF facilities such as classrooms, restrooms, hallways, entrance doors, entryways, offices, floors, desks, chairs, and walls.
  • Set up and arrange furniture, equipment, and supplies for events as directed by the Facility Manager & Chief Maintenance and Facility Officer (CMFO).
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting to keep the facility clean and presentable.
  • Empty trash and dispose of waste in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain outdoor areas, including sidewalks, parking lots, and play areas, by sweeping, litter picking, and removing debris.
  • Monitor and replenish supplies and consumables, such as paper towels, soap, and cleaning products, as needed. Notify Facility Manager of inventory needs.
  • Assist with minor repairs and maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs and repairing equipment.
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe environment for staff, participants, and visitors.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to coordinate cleaning schedules and prioritize tasks.
  • Respond to emergency situations and urgent cleaning needs as they arise.
  • Ensure the JJKF building, and property is secure at all times. Reports incidents and hazardous conditions to Facility Manager and/or Leadership. Follows Emergency Response Plan procedure.
  • Work in a professional manner with all departments to ensure success and quality events for Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation.
  • Fill out daily logs including all work order requests.
  • Performs preventative maintenance as needed.
  • Assists in closing and opening of the facility.
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous experience in janitorial or custodial work preferred

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor scrubbers, etc.
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques, products, and safety procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain cleanliness standards.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks that may require lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to providing excellent customer service.

  • Requires frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching, and carrying.
  • Requires occasional sitting and typing using a computer with a mouse.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to climb ladders and comfortable with heights including being on the roof of the building.
  • Lift, carry, move, set up, and take down equipment and supplies.
  • Requires being able to walk long distances for extended periods of time.
  • Specific vision abilities required including close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
  • Must have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to respond swiftly in an emergency situation.
  • Must be able to coordinate a variety of large and small tasks simultaneously and handle tension and a stress in a positive manner
  • Flexible schedule and willing to cover shifts due to call-offs when possible.
